You’re probably thinking at this point that I forgot to insert a number before the “9″ in the title of this post. While in many cases that would more than likely make perfect sense, today happens to be a special exception because I’m talking about Jason O’Neill. Who is he you ask? Jason is not only a successful entrepreneur at the ripe old age of 9, but he has developed a fully functioning company around his idea all while going to middle school! Hard to believe, but very impressive.
Don’t let his age fool you:
Jason take his business very seriously. Jason is the creator of Pencil Bugs (pictured above), which are little furry bug-eyed faces that you attach to the top of your pencils. According to his site, they make excellent party favors, creative incentives, and school supplies fun. Jason is currently in the process of finalizing the manufacturing process for his product line, which has become quite popular. As an entrepreneur, Jason said he has learned much more about accounting, website design, and public speaking than school would most likely ever teach him. He is also quick to note that his business was an accident.
What started out as a craft project when he was 9 has grown into a internet business comparable to many other small businesses out there run by people 3-4 times his age. Jason is now 13 and attends 8th grade while he continues to maintain a business on the side. For me, this article really highlighted the fact that you can’t succeed if you don’t try. As with the case of Jason O’Neill, you never know what will come of an idea.
