For the past several months, I’ve invested a great deal of my time into researching and understanding just how professional bloggers make their money. Let me start by saying that I consider a professional blogger to be anyone who operates a blog full-time and is able to generate a livable income from that blog. I’ve often thought wouldn’t it be great if there was a do-it-yourself guide written by a professional blogger, which walked you through step-by-step on how they make a living of their blog? Well, I’m happy to report that I recently stumbled upon such a guide!
Trent Hamm (a modern day entrepreneur) runs a very popular personal finance blog called The Simple Dollar. To give you an idea, he gets roughly around one million visits to his site each month, which translates into a large percentage of income that he takes in every month. Trent’s blog has also been featured on many different popular publications. By all accounts, he is a professional blogger. He recently published a straight to the point guide that details how he makes his income and how he built his blog up to be the success it is today. The article is quite long – so I took the liberty of highlighting the key points based on what I found the most valuable pieces of information to be in the guide. Enjoy!
Guide Rules For Any Pro Blogger Hopeful:
- Make sure the topic you write about is one you enjoy (content is VERY important and your efforts will show through)
- Quality content and TIME will lead to a gradual increase in traffic if done right
- Don’t go crazy with ad placement to start – a few here and there work best (adsense, amazon, neverblue, etc…)
- Transition to a pay per view (ppv) service once traffic is higher: i.e. federatedmedia.net (more money for the same traffic)
- Time + Quality + Interests = Success (that’s what it really comes down to – everything else is just minor support to these)
