If you’re serious about making money online with your blog, then you probably have heard the phrase “Monetize Your Blog.”  The word monetize simply means taking something of value and turning it into money, which is exactly what so many people are looking to do with their own site.  So the question quickly becomes how can I monetize my site and make money online?  While there are more ways available than any one person could count, today we are going to highlight the 10 most effective ways to monetize your blog.  See what they are and how they can benefit you!

MethodDescriptionBenefit
Ads (i.e. Google Adsense)Run advertisements on your blog within your postings and on the sidebar. Any site with some decent traffic can make some good money from these programs with little effort.
Affiliate Networks: (i.e NeverBlue Ads)Register your blog with a few affiliate networks to run approved advertisements campaigns on the side of your blog.Has a very high potential for good income and you can select ads to match your site content.
Products & ServicesCreate an ebook or some other unique product that you can sell through your website/blog.This is a great way to not only monetize your blog, but also to create a passive income stream!
Sell Ad SpaceInstead of posting ads for free, why not sell blocks of space on your blog to potential advertisers for a monthly fee! This works well for sites that have a well established audience and can prove more profitable then traditional advertising.
MerchandisingSell clothing or items that promote your brand or theme of your blog.Sites like cafepress can be used to easily create great merchandising opportunities as long as the interest is there.
Guest PostingAllow other upcoming experts in your area to guest post on your blog for a small fee to promote their own site.Guest poster gets traffic to his/her site and you get a little money for offering the platform.
Paid ContentSell guides or tutorials on a specific topic related back to your site. Paid content is a great way to get a steady stream of cash coming in for work you only had to put in once to create the original content.
Sponsored Posts (i.e. smorty)There are plenty of sites out there that will actually pay you to create and publish posts on specific topics.Easy way to make money though I FROWN upon such a method if you really care about your blog and the content for your readers.
DonationsYou can put a small Paypal donation button on your page with a message similar to "Buy me a cup of coffee".If your hard work shows and you have a loyal following, it might be worth the trouble to set this up to get a little something for your many hard blogging hours worked.
Sell Your Blog (i.e. Flippa)You can sell your blog (domain, content, and all) on a number of eBay style auction sites. If all else fails and you think it might be time to call it quits on a site, you might want to look into auctioning it off as you could easily get a few hundred dollars with very minimal content and traffic on the site.

Final Thought

It is worth noting that the 10 methods above work best when one has taken the time to first build some quality content and has been able to generate some traffic to their site.  Even with new sites though, it’s a good idea to implement these methods early so that you can grow and develop them with your site.  I personally only use Google Adsense to make a little extra cash on the side right now, and even with a fairly new blog I have been able to generate a slow, but steady increase in income from my site.  I can also say without any doubt that this is a direct result of the time I put in each week writing new content.  One last note before you run off to start to making money online – remember not to overdue it with these methods as you don’t want your site to come off as a pesky salesman for example!
