myth 10 Myths About Starting Your Own BusinessFalse stories that people mistake as facts can be trouble for anyone.  Myths as they are called surround all facets of our lives.  So much so that even doing something like starting your own small business is plagued with them.  We all read about the statistics or facts of actually having a successful business.  If you were to just look at the numbers, you might quickly get discouraged as many often do.  That would be a mistake because the fact is that many of those discouraging negative things you’ve heard about starting your own business are actually false.  Today, I’m going to debunk 10 of the more common myths about starting your own business.

Mythbusing For Entrepreneurs:

The next time someone tells you that you are more likely to fail than anything else, you might want to remember that just isn’t true.  The folks over at BusinessPundit have compiled a detailed list of 12 myths that entrepreneurs should be aware of.  Here now are the 10 most common myths about starting your own small business:

  • It takes money to make money: NO! You can start a business from home at very little cost to you.
  • You need a business plan to succeed: NO! Contrary to popular belief, a general idea of direction can work just as well.
  • You need a great idea to start: NO! Many successful entrepreneurs start out with a simple idea that turns into something more.
  • X % of all businesses fail: The term small business is so vague that the data collected in too wide to be accurate.
  • It takes X years for a business to make a first profit: NO! You can start generating profit online in months!
  • I can write everything off now: NO!  Unless you want to get audited.  Yikes!
  • I can pay myself whatever I want: NO! Invest in your business first and then pay yourself.
  • You have to be a huge risk taker: NO! Granted you take a small risk at least starting a business, but it doesn’t have to go beyond that.

So remember, the next time someone throws one of these myths in your direction that it simply isn’t true.  You can succeed if you don’t try.  Take action, have an open mind, and be prepared to learn a lot should you decide to go down the path of starting your own business.   Be sure to check out the full list and details at the link below.
