Ning is a web platform that allows users to create their own social networks similar to Facebook.  It has grown much in popularity since its launch in 2004 by a particular serial entrepreneur.  In a time when social networking is easily one of the most popular uses of people’s time when surfing the web, it’s no surprise to see outside the box businesses like Ning take off.  For this and more we take a look at entrepreneur Marc Andreessen in the spotlight this week. The Oatmeal is a very new site that has gained excessive popularity in a very short amount of time thanks to social media sites like Digg and Facebook.  The Digg community as embraced The Oatmeal website with open arms sending massive amounts of traffic to the site, now on a regular basis.  Matthew Inman is the person behind the unique cartoon site.  Matt has a background in marketing and web design.  He started a blog while working as a web developer and later opened The Oatmeal as a place for him to store his cartoon drawings.  The rest is history so to speak.  Matt also has a book on the way now as well.  The overwhelming success has since allowed him to quit his day job and focus full time on his website.  Below is a short interview with Inman, which should inspire anyone hoping to be a successful entrepreneur to keep trying and never give up.  Check it out (run time: 4 min):
