Google is the largest internet search company. What is now a common household name commonly replacing the term search, Google has grown rapidly over the past several years expanding far beyond the initial realms of searching to areas such as phone and television. While many know about Google and what it has to offer a user, most don’t know about the entrepreneur behind the now famous company. For this and more we take a look at entrepreneur Larry Page in the spotlight this week. We’ll look at just how he did it and highlight what lessons any upcoming entrepreneur can learn.

How He Did It:
Larry Page was born and raised in Michigan where he obtained a Computer Degree from the University of Michigan in 1991. Larry went on to get his Masters in Computer Science from Stanford University. In 1994, Larry began work on his Ph.D from Stanford where he would meet Sergey Brin who he later co-found Google with. Larry and Sergey began work on creating a automated site indexing engine that would assign page ranks to various sites the system gathered based upon a variety of characteristics. This early development work at Stanford would launch as Google in 1998 to the public out of a small garage. Over the next few years, Larry and his partner were able to obtain investments from a variety of sources until 2004 when the company when public generating a incredible amount of wealth almost overnight for the investors and founders of Google after several years of improvement and hard work. Today Larry works as the Products President of the company while pursuing other interests, hobbies, and projects.
Lessons Learned:
- Nothing happens instantly. Success has to be built. The now giant Google launched in 1998, but didn’t become overly successful until several years later.
- Trying an idea is the best thing you can do. You never know what is going to take off or where a trial run can take you.
- Working with others is a great way to develop a successful business.
- Do something you are truly passionate about.
- Never stop learning.
