rework jason fried 37signals 197x300 Rework ReviewJason Fried and David Hansson are the founders of 37Signals and more recently the authors of a book titled Rework Rework Review.  Jason and David continue to evolve what started out as a web design company into a multimillion dollar web application company . Rework takes the personal experiences of these two entrepreneurs and puts them into a book that focuses on saying no to the traditional corporate work environment and how we all can change our game to be more productive and more fulfilled with life in the process. The question though is does the book live up to its title and purpose? Keep reading for my complete review.

Rethink The Way You Work:

Jason Fried is the CEO of 37Signals, which is a popular startup that makes web application productivity software.  Jason Fried and David grew the business from a simple web design company several years back into the successful modern startup it is today.  They also run a blog called Signal vs Noise, which focuses on things like marketing, office procedures, productivity, and how we can change our view on many of these topics in order to become more productive in the process.

Rework pulls a great deal of its content and information from this blog as readers of it will be very familiar to the writing style found within the book.  Either way, Rework clocks in at 272 pages, but in reality is a little less than half of that since every other page is a illustrated image or end of a chapter.  The chapters in this book are about 1-3 pages at most, which I thought was interesting.  That aside, I found this book to be a amazing breath of fresh air to the work part of my brain that gets beaten down on a weekly basis with all the ridiculous corporate processes I see going on around me.  It helped to remind me that there is indeed a much better and more efficient way to do work if only big business was ready to listen.  Regardless, this is a book I highly recommend for entrepreneurs and corporate employees alike.

Topics of Discussion:

Jason Fried and David Hansson spend most of their time in Rework Rework Review discussing the following topics:

  • Productivity: Focuses on doing more by doing less and keeping it simple.
  • Promotion: Keep the customer at the front of your attention window.
  • Progress: Take action, focus on right now, and don’t sweat the small stuff.
  • Hiring: Ignore formal education and focus on what the individual can actually do.
  • Culture: You don’t create a culture (it happens on its own).  Step back and relax some.

Worth Reading?

Everyone who is currently working in the world or plans to work in the future should read Rework Rework Review.  It’s an extremely quick and easy read, but the information you get out of it (if applied) will carry you far in your work travels.  This book should be the blueprint for any business looking to change for the better (I’m serious)!  As you can see I clearly loved this book.  So what are you waiting for?  Go out and get yourself a copy today!  Please share your thoughts below.
