Sometimes we forget that every successful entrepreneur starts at ground zero when launching a new business.  I don’t know about you, but I can’t remember a time when the likes of entrepreneurs such as Steve Jobs or Bill Gates weren’t the mega successes they are today.  Knowing that almost all entrepreneurs you read about today came from a place outside the world of entrepreneurship can really help to humanize your own journey to starting your own business and help ground your thoughts in reality instead of making them seem like a distant dream that is too far out of reach.    That’s why I wanted to share a very interesting (and amusing) infographic, which highlights the first jobs of some of today’s most successful entrepreneurs so that you can see how they did in fact come from a very similar place to where you may be right now:

phonebooth A Free Alternative to Google Voice: PhoneboothGoogle Voice continues to be a popular choice for any entrepreneur running a small business out of their own home and how can blame them.  It’s a free service with a free phone number and plenty of useful features.  The only cost to the end user is for making calls, which similar to Skype is pretty cheap.  While Google Voice is not a actual VoIP service by definition (yet!), it’s still a great product for any entrepreneur at home or on the go with their cell phone.  Thanks to the powers that be and more so to friendly competition, Google Voice is not your only alternative.  Entrepreneurs may be shocked to hear that there is actually another similar free service that goes by the name of Phonebooth, which could serve up some decent competition for the search giant.  This is good news for you and me! dogpatch labs A Frat House Community For EntrepreneursCourtesy of studentaa

Most internet startups and new entrepreneurs typically work out of their own home because it’s cheap on costs and convenient to do so.  While there are some nice benefits to this, working out of your house as an army of one can sometimes have its disadvantages.  It can make it harder to interact with like minded people, which can make developing ideas tricky sometimes.  There is also the whole seperation of work and personal debate that we won’t get into here, but it is worth mentioning.  Wouldn’t it be great if there was a place where entrepreneurs from all different startups could come and work while at the same time network and share ideas?  Thanks to the folks over at Dogpatch Labs, there is now a place where entrepreneurs of all kinds can come to work, share ideas, and even get some lunch while working on their next startup. A fellow entrepreneur once said to me fail often, but fail fast. The idea behind this being that we learn the most from our failures, which only make us that much more likely to succeed the next time around as entrepreneurs rarely succeed on the first try.  By failing fast, you learn a lot, but also minimize your costs, time, and lost of resources in the process.  Recently, Adam Savage of the popular TV show Mythbusters gave a speech on the topic of failure highlighting his (many) failures throughout his career to get to where he is today.  Whether your a fan or not of the show (I am), there is no denying the success of Adam from Mythbusters.  Failure is a common topic in the entrepreneur space and knowing how to work with it a crucial to any entrepreneurs’ success.  Adam brings up many good points that any entrepreneur can apply to their own life and goals.  See for yourself!
