We’ll look at just how he did it and highlight what lessons any upcoming entrepreneur can learn.

How He Did It:

Pete Cashmore was bron in 1985 and grew up in Scotland, U.K.  While attending college, Cashmore worked as a web technology consultant.  During this time in 2005, he also started a social media focused blog called Mashable.  The social media blog has since taken off in popularity over the past few years skyrocketing in both visitors and income.  Cashmore now works on Mashable full time.  The website has an Alexa ranking of 352 and profits while undeclared can easily be assumed in the millions.  Since his success, Cashmore also now writes regularly in the technology section of CNN and has been working to focus site content on more mainstream articles.

Lessons Learned:

  • Don’t be afraid of failure.  You never know what idea will sink and which will float.
  • Take action!  Get out there and try something – it’s the only way to get anywhere.
  • Listen to your audience when it comes to building a strong supporting community like Mashable.
  • Put a face to your product or company.  Make yourself known to give a more personal impression to everyone.
  • Remember to keep trying and give it time!
